Twenty-Six pieces arranged for fingerstyle (or classical) ukulele in two or three parts -- 22 duos and 4 trios

Standard Notation and Tablature.

The music arranged in this book comes from a variety of sources including classical music from various instrumentations (guitar, piano, lute, orchestral), as well as from folk traditions (such as well-loved Celtic, Klezmer, Christmas and Blues tunes).

Players of any level of expertise can enjoy playing something in this collection with others. Most of the arrangements have at least one easy part.

There are parts that can be played by ukulele in standard (re-entrant) tuning, as well as low G tuning. There are a couple of pieces that also include a part for baritone ukulele (or guitar).

Although the book is primarily for ukulele with a low G string fourth string on it, there are several pieces to enjoy if you like to keep a high G string on your ukulele. The chords for vocal accompaniment are fingered the same way regardless of tuning. In addition, seven of the melodies do not use the fourth string at all and are therefore appropriate for either tuning. They are labeled as such in the Annotations.

by Ellen S. Whitaker

61 pages       $14.95

The melodies used in these arrangements are drawn from various Jewish traditions, secular and sacred, and are among the most popular of tunes. Included are Sephardic and Eastern European folk tunes, Hasidic and Klezmer tunes, and liturgical songs.

The arrangement styles are varied, including simple melody (with lyrics and chords), expertly arranged classical-style solos for players at all levels, and four lengthy duets and a trio. Players of any level of expertise can enjoy this collection - whether solo or together with others.

In addition to the (expected) Notation Guide and Chord Charts, the author has generously included some unexpected treats. These include the interesting and informative “A Brief Music Theory Lesson: About the Scales in Jewish Music,” a thorough Glossary, and a ten-page section of Annotations.

The study notes in the Annotations can guide you toward playing with more ease and/or explain “curious” fingering suggestions. And for less experienced players, they also provide some foundational information, including explanations of notations and instruction in technique.
